Chapter 3

Lane had never been shot at before. Had never been in a private jet. Had never stolen a car. Had never had his apartment burned down. It was a day of firsts. His eyes felt like they were on fire. He'd never traded blow jobs while hiding out from a killer, either. Especially with such a sexy guy. He wasn't sure where they were or how long it had been. His phone had run out of juice hours ago.

True, wearing gloves and a hood over his head now, turned the car into a long circular driveway that led to an enormous house. True parked the car in front of the big doors, and turned to him. "This is your grandfather's place. It's safe and we'll be able to figure out what the fuck is going on."

A tiny voice inside Lane whispered that he didn't know this man, didn't have a grandfather, hadn't been shot at before True... But there was a bigger voice and it was shouting at him to trust True, to stay close and never let the man go.

Two big guys in suits came out the front door, flanking it. They looked immovable.

"House security," True told him. "They won't hurt you. Let's go meet your grandfather."

"I sure hope that my gut is right and you're not a serial killer." Because that would suck.

"You always blow potential serial killers?" True asked him, giving him a grin before getting out of the car and coming around to open his door for him.

"Not that I know of, but it's a possibility."

True laughed. He sure didn't look like a serial killer with his eyes lit up with the laughter. And being near him made Lance's heart beat faster. Every time.

An old man came out the door.

"We'll have to table this discussion for later. Come on, hopefully Desmond knows what the hell is going on." True took his elbow and guided him toward the house.

Lane walked with True, feeling like nothing more than he'd fallen down the rabbit hole.

They got to the front door and the old man there... Lane swallowed. The guy had his mother's eyes. Like seriously.

True made the introduction. "Desmond. This is your grandson Lane. Lane, this is your grandfather, Desmond Archer."

The old man smiled wide and held out his hand.

"I..." Lane took the man's hand, shook it. "I have to be honest. My mother said my grandfather passed."

The old man sighed. "Anita and I had a falling out when you were little and she cut me out. I hadn't realized she'd done so this thoroughly." Desmond turned. "Come on in. I understand you've had an eventful couple of days."

Lane looked to True, which made no sense because obviously the man was loyal to Desmond, not him. He didn't want that to be true, though. Like really.

True put a hand on his shoulder, the connection leaving tingles. "I let Desmond know what was going on just before we landed."

They went in, Desmond taking them to a sitting room that shouted money.
